Maui Jim & Luxottica Split Up

The respected Sunglasses brand for nearly 30 years, Maui Jim have announced that they have parted ways with their manufacturer, Luxottica.

Luxottica (also referred to Suxottica by many...because they suck), have used bullying tactics in order to force Maui Jim to sell Luxottica their sunglasses at a much cheaper price, so Luxottica can buy them cheaply and sell them at an ridiculously high mark-up price to Maui Jim customers. So Luxottica pockets more money, while Maui Jim customers are ripped off.

Maui Jim did not approve Luxotticas techniques and their sunglasses will no longer be manufactured by Luxottica. It is really respectful that Maui Jim, known for designing some of the best polarized lenses on their functional sunglasses, have felt the need to stand up for their company values and not be pressured into forced dealing with Luxottica. However Maui Jim isn't the first company to be displeased with Luxotticas service, as many brands have not had a positive experience dealing with them.

Luxottica tries to dominate, over produce, and reduce the quality of items. For example, those with a discerning eye will note that the quality of many sunglasses stocked in Sunglass Hut stores have reduced in significantly in quality such as Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, Ray Ban, Bvglari and many more. It is no longer exclusive, classy or valuable to buy or own brands produced by Luxottica and stocked at Sunglass Hut.

If you want to read and comment on the Luxottica and Maui Jim split, here is a link to a post written by the Celebrity Sunglasses Finder website.

Thank you NVPATENTLAWYER for the heads up on this story :)

    1. Luxottica never manufactured Maui jim sunglasses. They sold them only. Sunglass hut is an authorized retailer of the brand, who sets their own prices and controls their own discounting policies.

  2. You really have no idea what's going on. You shouldn't spread inappropriate lies. But I doubt anyone believes any of this crap you say.

  3. I have to say I am a fan of Maui Jim but the quality of the frame on my Banyans is really poor. The lenses are great but the hinges and frame are made out of cheap plastic. By cheap I mean brittle! My second pair have just broken at the hinge. I have just emailed Maui Jim in the UK and I will see if they will replace the broken arm.

  7. Sell outs!!!! Luxottica is engaging in monopolistic tendencies and the USA government will not do anything because the US Treasury department is a stockholder in Luxottica. A foreign National Corporation that manufactures there sunglasses in China and assembles them in Italy often at a cost of $10-$15 dollars and you pay 2000% markup. That would not pass FTC muster of "made in Italy" GARBAGE!!

  9. Luxottica does indeed suck as they are a monopoly which is why 60 Minutes did a segment on them. They control pricing for over 90% the eye wear industry and they should be subject to government oversight to break up retail from the parent in Italy. Monopolies are supposed to be illegal in the U.S.
